How to reset goals. Start the 2025 you now.

We're in the last quarter of 2024 and before the Christmas and school holidays hit and you have to start thinking about all the things, I think October is the perfect opportunity to reflect on the things you wanted to, and possibly have, implemented in 2024. I mean really notice it and name it and be put thought to the fact that you actually have changed, achieved or integrated a few things. YAY!
Stopping and noticing what you've managed to implement is really helpful. Very often people tell themselves stories that nothing's changed or everything's the same. So noticing what actually has changed (because change is a constant is really) is really important.
The second thing is to recognise what you haven't I managed to implement and explore why? Why have I not managed to integrate that or change or work on that? Sometimes it might be, I don't really want to change it. I feel like I should change it, but maybe I really don't want to change it. In which case, take it off your fucking list because it just makes you feel like shit to go, I need to do X or be Y and it's never happened. And then you roll around in the shame that you've never managed to change. Like maybe you need to go, there's a secondary gain to staying this way or to doing this thing or accepting this thing, this aspect of my character. Remember, everything doesn't have to be changed!
So maybe we start taking it OFF the list. Or maybe it needs to be reconfigured and framed in a different way that fits better, but sometimes taking things off the list is really valuable.
Last. What do I want to shift onto 2025's list? And what's my why? Once we've reviewed the things that may or may not have managed to be implemented and we've explored why, we need to discern the things that we want to integrate and really explore why. We need more than ‘shoulds’ or it's the right thing to do… We need to anchor it into a why (the value) for you. Then by the end of October, let's have some clarity and start our steps towards the 2025 version of ourselves, because let's face it, we can start now. If we started now, even if it was just one thing, integrating it and implementing it through October, November, December, then by the time January 2025 hits, we're actually already doing the thing. And we've already got 12 weeks up our sleeve. So whether that is doing a 15 minute Tabata and moving your body dynamically three times a week, starting to lift heavy things, removing something or reducing alcohol, having more sex in your relationship or speaking more kindly, doing something special with your mum or a child and making some special time, or exploring your love languages and really implementing and showing love to all people in your life, let’s figure it out and start NOW. Why not use October as an opportunity to audit and start to implement the change you want to be.
